drw Design has a pretty strict policy on not doing residential real estate sites. We originally did this one back in 2001 when we didn’t have that policy. Way back then our goal was to create a real estate site that didn’t look like all the cookie-cutter monstrosities out there. We even found a content management system that our client could use to maintain all the listings in-house. That little CMS stood up for six years until two things happened. First, the person who was maintaining the site all those years was no longer able to do it. Second, the guy who was hosting the site suddenly dropped off the face of the earth, and so did the site.
Our client is a fantastic Realtor, but she’s not super web-savvy. She called us, desperate to get the site back up and to have us teach her how to maintain it herself. She still loved the design and didn’t want to change it.
We never, ever abandon our clients. We spiffed up the code, put the site into a modern content management system, and provided a new solution for displaying the properties. Our client is now totally maintaining her site, rocking out on her slide shows, and is super-happy with how easy it all is for her now.
